Fact: Anything and everything that you put on your skin will be absorbed into your body/ blood system.

That’s a sobering thought! Whether its shampoos, creams, sun lotion, tattoos, hair colorants – it will all find its way deep into your cellular system at some point.

Give this a try if you don’t believe me: put a good thick slice of garlic in your sock and see if you can either taste garlic or smell it later in the day! The garlic will penetrate your skin and eventually the smell or taste will make its way to your senses at the other end of you body! Garlic is magnificently great for us so this is a safe experiment! But it goes to show that the skin absorbs anything we put on it!

In fact, whatever you put on your skin should be edible!

The benefits of the main ingredients in the whipped body butter are:

Organic Shea butter = softens, hydrates, improves skins natural barrier, protects skin from environmental pollutants. Contains fatty acids; lineoleic, oleic, palmitic, stearic acids. Edible.

Organic coconut oil = deeply moisturizing, reduces inflammation (even from UVB rays), promotes wound healing, antibacterial, antifungal, antifungal. Reduces temporary redness. Edible.

Organic cocoa butter = humectant (attracts moisture and holds it in), forms protective barrier over skin, rich in phytochemicals (plant compounds that improve blood flow to skin and slow aging by protecting against UV rays). Improves elasticity. Edible.

Almond oil or jojoba oil = almond oil; reduces puffiness and under eye dark circles, improves complexion, improves skin tone, treats dry skin, improves acne, helps revers sun damage, reduces scar damage. Jojoba oil = soothing, moisturizing, nourishing, hydrating. Increases skin suppleness. Edible

Question: Why spend money on commercial body lotions and creams that actually can dry out your skin, cause irritation, thin the skins outer layer, have added artificial ingredients that the body could be allergic to and it costs a lot?

Often commercial creams are advertised so that you go back and buy them again with flashy promises and Hollywood actors with inches of make-up on to make them look young!

I discovered a new respect for my skin when I contracted Roundworm from my local gym. (It’s a fungus and is highly contagious from mats and machines not sanitized pre/post use.) The Dr. mis-diagnosed it and I was given a strong Hydro-cortisol (a steroidal cream). I’d never used anything like that before and I had an allergic reaction. A very bad allergic reaction. To cut a long story short, I ended up with a chronic itchy hot welted rash all over both legs, my entire back, groin, breast area, armpits and top of my hands. Nothing helped. NOTHING. And I was in terrible pain, the itching was 24/7 and I couldn’t sleep. I was starting to panic. I ended up Fasting on chicken broth for three weeks, getting acupuncture and I used a homeopathic cream based with Emu oil. My gut was inflamed, the fungus (Ringworm) got into my lymph system, liver and gut. The only way I got out of “itchy jail” was by stopping eating, consuming homemade organic chicken broth and using the emu oil cream. (www.emuaid.com) This was proof that whatever we put on e.g., a small quarter size rash (Ringworm) can spread over the entire body. No fun. And, always pre-sanitize your gym mat or machines and post sanitize!

Anyhoo - Let’s make our own organic natural whipped body butter

and for the fraction of what it would cost in a store!

You’ll need:

A large bowl

A large pot filled about ½ way with water

A Wooden spoon

(Hand whisk and spatula optional)

½ cup Organic Shea butter

½ cup Organic coconut oil

½ cup Organic cocoa butter

½ cup Almond oil or jojoba oil

Favorite essential oil about 10-30 drops

6-8 Jam jars depending on the size – small ones are good e.g., 4oz or 6 oz. I like to reuse my jam jars by boiling them in water and letting them air dry before re-using them

Instructions:

Put your pot of water on the stove and bring to a simmer.

Add your butters and oils to the bowl and place on the pot so they melt. This is called a double boiler. Do not leave this as the water could start to boil over. Stir the mixture to help it melt into a smooth paste.

Once done and the mixture is a golden color with no blobs in it, turn off the heat, allow the mixture to cool down and attain a normal temperature

Add your essential oil and stir

Put it in the fridge for about 45 minutes. The mixture will thicken and turn a creamy color.

Take it out of the fridge and whip it up with a spoon or hand whisk

Scoop out the creamy whipped up body butter and pop into your jars.

That’s it! You can decorate your whipped body butter jars with cheerful labels and ribbons if you want and give them away or keep them all for yourself.
